Baby Books

Months ago I decided that I was going to try to finish Sebastien and Eden's baby books before our new baby daughter arrives. I figured that most of the stuff that is being recorded in a baby book is stuff that happens before kids are two years old, so I would be able to get most of the writing completed. Once Baby Girl is here and her first year starts, I'm assuming that I will start getting confused about who does what when. So, when the spirit moves me and my energy allows, I pick up both the books and work work work.

Tonight was such a night. I got quite a bit done. I was able to look back on Facebook, on this blog and in my personal journal and fill out quite a bit.

And this got me thinking. Are baby books going to be replaced by blogs? I was thinking about just printing off all of my blog posts from the first year of their lives and calling it "good." Similarly, I haven't printed pictures since the kids were born. I haven't done a Creative Memories book or even started an old school photo album. The idea of going back through my iphoto and choosing pictures from the thousands that are in there is quite daunting. I'd MUCH rather just create photo albums out of all the photos I've posted on Facebook. Those are my favorites anyway.

Maybe if I lobby with Facebook I could get Mr. Facebook to add a feature: print this album. Or something.

In the meantime, I'll keep working on my baby books, and I'll keep planning to print pictures, and never do it.

The kiddos will be growing up never knowing a world without facebook, or e-mail, or iphones... but I still think physical baby books and photo albums are priceless! I always loved sprawling out on mom & dad's bed with old photo albums, and I still have my baby book! They'll love having those later on. (That being said, I know the feeling about never printing pictures anymore... I just realized the other day that I need to print newer pics of the twins for the frame on my bookshelf, since they are no longer 5 months old! :)
